Taza Needs our Help!!

Over the weekend of the 10th & the 11th, Somerville was bombarded by a flashflood that caused much damage to many local businesses and homes. Unfortunately, Taza Stone Ground Chocolate was hit hard when 16 inches of floodwater rushed into their brand-new space. All of their new chocolate grinding and processing machines were damaged. Every machine has to be replaced after only producing one batch of chocolate in this new location.

Friends over at Tomasso Trattoria and Panzano are helping out by offering 15% off Taza Chocolate this week and this weekend, July 23rd- 24th: Spend $50 or more at Panzano including 2 or more Taza chocolate products and receive a free Taza Cocoa & Mass. Farmer’s Market Tote!*

Taza is a small business, just like Panzano, producing high quality and unique products for an appreciative crowd. These chocolates are stone ground with authentic Oaxacan stone mills instead of steel refiners. Due to this imperfect surface of a granite millstone, unrefined cacao particles and sugar granules remain in the finished chocolate, which gives their bars a distinctive granular texture and delicious chocolate flavor!

TAP WARS!

A three-way duel among local brewers

Starting Tonight, June 28th Post 390 kicks off Tap Wars, a monthly battle for a tap at Post 390! Starting with the Monday kick-off event, three local brewers will feature one style of beer, and guests will choose their favorite! Battling in July, Berkshire Brewing Company from South Deerfield, Cisco Brewers from Nantucket, and Cape Ann Brewing Company from Gloucester will serve their own India Pale Ale in hopes of being voted #1. Tap Wars lasts the week: Post 390 will offer the flight of three 6-ounce tastes through Wednesday, June 30th. Those who order the flight earn themselves a ballot to be a part of selecting the winner.

What are they battling for, you ask? A shot at the title of course…well, at exclusive rights on Post 390’s designated Local Tap for one month. And three lucky voters who participate will be invited by Post 390 to the quarterly Tap Wars Beer Dinner in which Chef Eric Brennan will pair four-courses with the brewery who sells the most beer from the local tap. But more on that later. First there is beer to taste – and soon!

When: TAP WARS kicks off Monday, June 28th, 2010 at 6pm

Where: Post 390, 406 Stuart Street, Boston, MA,

A Sinful Sushi Lunch at beni

Craving something on the healthier side and always on the hunt for great restaurants serving lunch, the Where to Eat team set out today for beni, located at 405 Hancock Street in North Quincy.

If you're a fan of sushi, you've probably experienced that familiar worried feeling when trying a new restaurant, that your sushi may not be good, because there's so much as stake!.... So, in we bravely ventured, only to find an adorable sushi cafe. Modern and minimalistic yet comfortable, you can breathe easy, beni will not only please but delight! The sushi chefs were extremely friendly and informative, telling us where we could get a 'Make Your Own' Sushi kit, even though I'm sure ours would pale in comparison.

We ordered the Mango Madness Maki (
mango, shrimp, cucumber and tempura bits roll, topped with thinly sliced tuna and spicy mayo) which was a blend of truly amazing flavors, the Shrimp Tempura Maki because you can never go wrong with shrimp tempura... and the Volcano Maki (tuna and avocado roll topped with tempura bits, spicy sauce and tobiko) which was actually served in the shape of a volcano with spicy mayo and tobiko 'exploding' out!

Best of all, our most expensive specialty roll was only $7.50! Needless to say... I know where I'll be begging to go to lunch from now on. Healthy food, great taste and all at a good price!

A Taste of Rowes Wharf Sea Grille

Last night, Where to Eat continued to celebrate its 10 year anniversary at Rowes Wharf Sea Grille. Chef Bruce put together a fantastic menu of wonderfully paired duos featuring some of their specialties for "A Taste of Rowes Wharf Sea Grille"

The evening began with a Bacardi pre-dinner cocktail hour, featuring the Harborside Daiquiri, BACARDI rum, Pineapple Juice, Fresh Lime Juice and Simple Syrup. Also available was the Green Tea Gimlet. This drink had a complex mix of flavors, yet still felt light and springy (BOMBAY Sapphire Gin, Green Tea Syrup, Fresh Basil, Fresh Cucumber and Lemon Juice).

I began my meal with the Sea Grille Crudo of the day and White Soy Tossed Yellowfin Tuna Tartar. The plates complimented each other well and served as a refreshing starter.

For my second course I chose the Lemon and Herb Chicken Breast and Grilled Prime Filet Mignon. The meat was so tender I could cut it with a butter knife!

The other main course options were Gilled Nova Scotia Salmon & Simply Grilled Daily Catch and Parmesan Cheese Tossed Fresh Pappardelle & Golden Potato Gnocchi. Both plated beautifully.

The grand finale.... dessert was phenomenal of course; Dark Chocolate Espresso Pie & Banana Cream Pie, Strawberry Rhubarb Streusel Tart & Meyer Lemon Napoleon and Passion Fruit Panna Cotta & Pomegranate Sorbet. I chose the Panna Cotta and Sorbet, which was the perfect light pairing, to make me forget that I had just thoroughly enjoyed six whole courses.
